Anti-Inflammatory | Antioxidant | Caffeine Free | Dairy Free
I am a big fan of coffee! But, in the recent times there has been such a craze about this newbie in many cafes called the “Turmeric Latte” / “Golden Milk”. I was very intrigued over this hot drink and decided to try it! After all, it was actually quite nice, especially having a cup of Turmeric Latte in this cold weather is just so comforting. Powered with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties such as turmeric and ginger, this healing golden milk is completely caffeine free and dairy free which makes it perfect to be consumed any time of the day.
What is so great about Turmeric?
The usage of turmeric as a healing property dates back to many centuries in the Indian holistic medicine known as “Ayurveda”. This ancient spice believed to have many healing properties such as:
- Improves digestion
- Manages arthritis
- Supports the brain and nervous system
- Nourishes the heart and circulatory system
- Antiseptic for cuts, burns and bruises
- Boosts overall immune system
We need to understand that it’s not the turmeric spice itself that’s the hero, rather it’s the active component within turmeric called curcumin. Thanks to Curcumin – it is the curative ingredient that gives turmeric its vibrant golden colour. It has powerful anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant and gastrointestinal health substances which help in protecting healthy cells and inhibiting the spread of cancer cells. Curcumin also aids in managing inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, eczema, asthma and inflammatory bowel issues.
Did you know that curcumin, when consumed by itself has a poor level of bioavailability (rate of absorption)?
A research study published in Planta Med established that the bioavailability of curcumin in humans increased by 2000% when combined with piperine (a major component in black pepper)[i]. So, next time be sure to add black pepper with turmeric to get the maximum benefits to your overall health.
In the west, turmeric has been recently proclaimed to be a Superfood. Nevertheless, in South Asian culture this golden spice has been used ever since in cooking for thousands of years. The use of turmeric in cooking gives an additional flavour boost and colour which makes the food taste so delicious and look so tempting.
I love the fact that turmeric latte gives us the tasty and healthy alternative to include this potent spice into our diet regularly. So, warm up this winter season with this comforting, yet super nutritious blend – Turmeric Latte.
